Hades Chavanne

Hades Rocha Chavanne is a Postdoctoral Associate at the ND Learning | Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence, as well as a Postdoctoral Teaching Scholar specializing in English. They earned a BA in Creative Writing from California State University, Channel Islands in 2018, followed by an MA in American Literature from the University of Notre Dame in 2021. They successfully obtained their PhD in English from Notre Dame in 2023.

Hades’s academic research centers on the convergence of eroticism, blackness, and the natural world within American literary traditions. Their work at the Kaneb Center is dedicated to promoting inclusive pedagogy, ungrading principles, and nurturing student well-being and community. Hades firmly believes in the liberatory potential of pedagogy and crafts courses that recognize the classroom as a transformative space for open dialogue and profound change.

In addition, Hades has had the privilege of designing and teaching courses spanning various disciplines, including Writing & Rhetoric, American Studies, Literature, Gender Studies, and Film.
