Kaneb Center Hiring Two Postdocs to Advance Teaching in STEM

Notre Dame Learning’s Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence invites applications for two postdoctoral fellowship positions in pedagogical development, both with a preferred start date of July 1, 2024.

For the Postdoctoral Fellowship in STEM Pedagogy, the Kaneb Center seeks an individual with a focus in mathematics who will function as a key member of Notre Dame Learning’s Foundational Course Transformation Academy team. Candidates should have broad knowledge of educational development, evidence-based mathematics pedagogy, and a strong commitment to equity in teaching and learning.

Working with both Notre Dame Learning and faculty colleagues, the postdoctoral fellow will:

  • Serve as a key member and facilitator in the Foundational Course Transformation process for mathematics
  • Serve as a visible campus advocate for learning and teaching excellence
  • Consult with instructors and groups on teaching, with primary focus on mathematics
  • Actively prepare for further academic work through either:
    • Conducting Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, or Discipline-based Education research; or
    • Teaching one course per year for Notre Dame undergraduates in an academic department or program
 

The Postdoctoral Fellowship for Graduate Student Pedagogical Development in Engineering will support work on pedagogical development for graduate students and postdocs in engineering fields. As a member of the Kaneb Center team, this postdoc will work closely and collaboratively with the program director for graduate student and postdoctoral pedagogical development, the director, and other staff. The successful applicant will represent the Kaneb Center on matters of teaching and learning at Notre Dame and at national conferences. 

Specifically, this position is expected to:

  • Support the design, development, and delivery of graduate student programming
  • Plan and deliver teaching workshops for TAs in engineering
  • Support the design, development, and delivery of programming for graduate students mentoring undergraduates in engineering labs
  • Consult on pedagogy with graduate students and postdocs
  • Teach one course per academic year
  • Participate in the conception and development of new initiatives central to the center’s mission
  • Maintain an active scholarly and professional presence in educational development or pedagogy
