Mentoring Tomorrow's Engineers

-

Location: 247 Hesburgh Library

A main aspect of work for graduate students and postdocs is mentoring students in their labs and research groups. While they have been mentored, rarely are they given opportunities to learn and practice how to be a great mentor. In this 75-minute workshop, we will define research-backed qualities of effective mentors and how they cultivate learning experiences for their mentees through research projects. We will discuss the importance of communication and aligning expectations, followed by case studies of common mentoring challenges and strategies for preventing them. Please note this workshop is meant for graduate students and postdocs in the College of Engineering.

Facilitators:

  • Ashley Henry, Program Director for Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Development
