Motivation and Learning
In the Motivation and Learning workshop, participants will first learn about typical motivational mistakes and their consequences for engagement and learning. Participants will also learn about four important motivational principles and their implications for creating engaging courses. The principles are: creating a sense of belongingness, competence, and autonomy, as well as making learning meaningful to students. Participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm the application of these principles and their related strategies to their particular content area and course specifics (e.g., lecture, lab, seminar, etc.).
After successfully completing this workshop you will be able to:
- identify the four motivational principles.
- implement motivational principles that cultivate engaging courses.
