Learning Goals

Learning goals identify the most important student outcomes for an assignment and clearly state how students will demonstrate their learning.

When writing goals, specify behaviors you can observe. Verbs such as apply, analyze, identify, compare, or critique to help establish a connection between goals and assessment.

Assignment goals should mesh with course goals.


The first task in building an assignment is to articulate learning goals. Spell out at least two goals in order to address

  1. Subject matter and
  2. Use of media
