If you Teach @ ND, this event is for you! We are setting aside October 7 to celebrate and support the excellent teaching that happens on Notre Dame’s campus, with a focus on relationship-rich education. We will have events, giveaways, and more, meant to recognize the immense value of your work and your connections with students.

  • 10:30 – Keynote: Peter Felten, author of “Relationship-Rich Education”

Relationship-Rich Education: Learning and Equity in and beyond our Courses

Decades of research demonstrate that the quality of student-faculty, student-staff, and student-student interactions are foundational to engaging, inclusive, and purposeful learning. Educational relationships profoundly influence motivation, learning, belonging, and achievement for all students, and particularly for new majority students. Drawing on more that 400 interviews with students, faculty, and staff across U.S. higher education – including dozens since the 2020 book – in this interactive session will explore relationships as a flexible, scalable, equitable, and humane approach to ensuring that all students experience welcome and care, become inspired to learn, and explore the big questions that matter for their lives and our communities. You will leave with practical ideas for research-informed ways that you can cultivate educationally powerful interactions in your work with students in and beyond the classroom.

  • 12:00 – Lunch for keynote attendees
  • 1:30 – Student panel, “The Instructors Who Changed My Life”
