Sonia Howell is the director of Notre Dame Learning’s Office of Digital Learning (ODL), where she is also appointed as an associate teaching professor. She leads the ODL’s team of learning designers, creative and media professionals, and program managers as they collaborate with colleagues across ND Learning and the University’s faculty to produce end-to-end online courses as well as digital learning experiences in traditional classrooms.

In addition, Sonia provides managerial and administrative oversight for Notre Dame’s Summer Online program, which offers nearly 100 fully online, for-credit courses each year that are available to the University’s students, faculty and staff, and the general public. She is currently helping to lead a task force charged with setting the next generation of Notre Dame’s digital strategy.

Sonia joined the Office of Digital Learning in 2014 as a postdoctoral research fellow for digital initiatives. She holds a B.A. in media studies and English from Maynooth University, an M.A. in comparative literature from Dublin City University, and a Ph.D. in English and digital humanities from Maynooth.

Outside of work, Sonia enjoys running and traveling.
