Lívia Pinheiro Duarte

Lívia Duarte is a graduate associate at Notre Dame Learning’s Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence and a third-year graduate student in Spanish at the University of Notre Dame. She holds an M.A. in Romance languages from the University of Georgia (UGA) and a B.A. in English and Portuguese/Italian language and literature from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES).

Lívia has taught Portuguese and English in a variety of contexts, including language courses, tutoring, and university-level instruction. She also developed educational materials and classroom projects at UFES and served as a teaching assistant for Portuguese in the Department of Romance Languages at UGA. Her pedagogical interests focus on student-centered and interactive approaches to language learning, with an emphasis on creating engaging classroom environments in which students actively participate in and reflect on their learning process.

With research interests including literary theory and linguistics as well as the teaching of Portuguese and Spanish as additional languages, Lívia is particularly interested in young adult literature, narratives of displacement and migration, and literature by Latino and immigrant writers. Her work examines how literature, other forms of cultural production, and language can represent experiences of identity, belonging, and displacement, particularly within Brazilian, Latin American, and diasporic contexts.
