Kyler Schubkegel

Kyler Schubkegel is a graduate associate at Notre Dame Learning’s Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence. He earned a B.A. in English and philosophy from George Fox University and an M.A.R. in religion and literature from Yale University before moving to South Bend to begin doctoral studies in English.

At Notre Dame, his research focuses on a variety of American literatures from the late 19th and 20th centuries, engaging with sound studies, media theory, affect theory, lyric theory, and religious studies. He has also taught in the University Writing Program, for which he received an Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award from the Kaneb Center and the Graduate School, and served as managing editor for Religion and Literature, a peer-reviewed journal housed in the Department of English at Notre Dame.

Kyler’s pedagogical interests include developing new assessment practices, integrating multimedia analysis and composition into text-based disciplines like literary studies, and evaluating the impacts of generative AI technologies on both student and faculty impressions of “good” writing or thinking.
