Horane Diatta-Holgate

Horane Diatta-Holgate is an assistant teaching professor and the program director for faculty development in Notre Dame Learning’s Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence. Horane develops and coordinates programs to support instructors (faculty, graduate students, and postdocs) with designing courses and classroom environments that foster critical thinking, meaningful engagement, and effective interpersonal communication. He consults with instructors on a variety of topics including but not limited to: course design, student engagement, assessment, facilitating classroom discussions, and collecting and using student feedback for improvement.

Horane’s interests in teaching and scholarship focus on teaching inclusively, course design, assessing classroom climate, mixed methods research design, human motivation, immersive learning experiences (virtual reality and experiential learning), neurodiversity, as well as interacting across cultural differences and similarities.

Horane has a B.A. in psychology and a minor in sociology from Johnson C. Smith University and MSEd and Ph.D. in educational psychology and research methodology from Purdue University–West Lafayette. Prior to joining ND Learning, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Purdue University Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE) and College of Agriculture.
