Gelei Xu

Gelei Xu is a graduate associate at Notre Dame Learning’s Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Notre Dame’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, she holds a B.E. in computer science and engineering from Southern University of Science and Technology, where she first became involved in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of AI and health care.

Her research concerns on-device artificial intelligence and its applications in health care, with particular interests in model personalization and efficient learning under resource constraints. She is passionate about building AI systems that are not only technically robust but also equitable and deployable in real-world clinical settings.

In addition, Gelei is deeply interested in education and mentoring. She has engaged in various teaching activities and is committed to promoting student-centered learning practices in STEM. Her pedagogical interests include integrating AI tools to enhance personalized learning experiences as well as designing technology-assisted instruction that empowers all students.
